It’s that time of year for the annual Tarrytown Rotary Club Rubber Duck Derby! This year marks the eight year the event is being held and our agency has supported this from day one. Our own JoAnne Murray is one of the mascot’s, dressing as one of the two costumed ducks making appearances at events leading up to the big day where the duck races occur.
Many have asked, what is a Rubber Duck Derby? For this event, people can “adopt” a rubber duck which is numbered. They receive an adoption certificate with their duck number. The day of the race, six heats are run, where the ducks are all mixed in tubs and for each race, a group of ducks are dropped into a stream where the ducks float down the stream and the duck that comes in first wins that heat. We then have a final race where the winners of each heat race each other for the Grand Prize.
The Rotary Club of the Tarrytowns is holding this event Saturday April 30, 2016 at Patriot’s Park in Tarrytown, NY. They have done this in partnership with the YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day. The day has grown into a village wide favorite with visitors coming from all over Westchester County to enjoy the rubber duck races and a fun family day in the park.
