Pet Safety Advice for Cold Weather

Pet Safety Advice for Cold Weather

Keep your pets safe during the cold weather this winter by using this advice.

As the weather turns cold, we face more health risks. This winter is flu season and the chilly weather makes your body work harder, making you more susceptible to illness. You’re not the only one, though! Your pets are also at risk.

Protect your furry family members this winter by using this pet safety advice for cold weather.

  • Peer at Paws. Take the time to inspect your pet’s paws for any cold weather damage like cracked paw pads. Also, clip the hair between your dog’s toes so it doesn’t gather snow and turn into an ice ball.
  • Share Shelter. If you have an outdoor pet, you need to make sure he or she has a warm place to go (e.g. your garage) or bring your pet indoors during the winter. People all too often assume that fur will protect their pets from cold, but your pets are just as susceptible to the cold as you!
  • Visit the Vet. The cold weather could make it harder for your pet to stay healthy, especially if he or she has preexisting conditions like arthritis. This is a great time for your pet’s preventative care exam.
