Be Prepared for Winter Driving

Winter driving presents a number of challenges to both you and your car so it pays to be prepared. Here are some tips to help you prepare for winter traveling.

Warm It Up

If the temperatures are going to be frigid, make sure you leave time to properly warm up the car before you drive it. To prevent carbon monoxide poisoning never leave a vehicle running in an enclosed area, such as a garage.

Check the Weather Before You Go

Check your forecast before you leave and wait out any storms if possible. If you have to travel make sure you share your travel plans with someone before you leave

Get a Checkup

Make sure to have a mechanic to check the important systems in your car before heading on any trips.

Driving in the Snow

Don’t try to get moving in a hurry, accelerate and decelerate slowly. Make sure to give yourself extra time to slow down for stoplights as it takes longer to slow down on icy and snowy roads.

If you don’t have somewhere you HAVE to be, watch the snow from indoors and stay off the roads. Even if you can drive well in the snow, not everyone else can.
