Protecting Against an Invisible Killer: Carbon Monoxide

Protecting Against an Invisible Killer: Carbon Monoxide

Carbon monoxide is an invisible killer!

There’s a silent killer poised and waiting in your home. If you don’t take steps to protect yourself and your family, it could strike at anytime.

Carbon monoxide, a gas without odor or color, is life threatening. Even if you get out in time, it can still cause permanent neurological damage. It’s especially important that you consider your protection against carbon monoxide during this chilly time of year. Your furnace could be leaking this gas if it’s not functioning properly!

Fortunately, there are some things you can do to protect yourself from carbon monoxide exposure this winter. Here’s a convenient list of them.

  • Have a qualified technician come to your home to inspect your gas and coal burning appliances, including your heating system and water heater.
  • Don’t use a generator within your home. You shouldn’t even set up a generator within 20 feet of doors, vents, or windows!
  • Test your carbon monoxide detector and put fresh batteries in it every six months.

We hope this reminder helps you protect yourself this winter. To get even more protection, contact Allan Block Insurance Agency for all of your insurance needs in Tarrytown, throughout Westchester County, and across New York.
