School Bus Safety for Children and Drivers

Labor Day has come and gone, the nights are starting to get cool and in New York that means one thing is right around the corner: Back to School! While you may be thinking of school shopping and your kid’s teachers will be like, it is important to remember that also means school buses will be back on the road. Here are some things to help keep both children and drivers safe with school buses on the road.

Student Safety:

  • Allow plenty of time to get to the bus stop. You should always walk and never run to the bus stop to prevent careless accidents.
  • Stand back from the curb to be visible to the driver, buses are high and standing too close to the curb means the driver may not see you.
  • Remind your children to never speak to or get in the car with strangers at the bus stop.

Driver Safety:

  • Follow speed limits and never pass a stopped school bus. Watch for students going to and from the bus.
  • Be aware of when school begins and ends. Allow plenty of time to get to your destination as it may be slower with school buses on the road.
