Tips To Prepare For Hurricane Season

Your Guide To Hurricane Preparation

Hurricane season is underway, but that does not mean it is too late for you to put some effort into protecting your home against this type of storm. To avoid major losses in the face of a hurricane, use these tips for preparing for hurricane season.

  • Team Up: After a hurricane, you will want to get your home structurally sound against as soon as possible. Keep a good relationship with your roofer and contractor, and you are more likely to promptly get the help you need despite them being busy after a hurricane.
  • Shut It Up: You should have storm shutters over every opening to your house, including skylights. Double check them and, where necessary, bolster security. Particularly, make sure your French doors have at least three hinges and fastening bolts to lock them together.
  • Seal Up: Check the caulking on all windows and doors to ensure your home will not experience water damage.
  • Trim Up: Prune your trees and shrubs so there are no overhanging, loose, or otherwise dangerous branches on your property.
