Camp Carpools – Have You Checked Your Auto Insurance Policy?

carpooling-auto-insurance-original

With spring and summer approaching, parents will convene with friends and family to decide on the kids’ activities. Summer camp, baseball, soccer, swimming lessons and many other opportunities will arise, and they all have one thing in common: someone needs to drive the children there and pick them up!

When arranging carpools, most parents won’t ask about auto insurance. But here’s the unfortunate truth: many people carry only a minimum amount of liability insurance. Having low/minimum limits of liability on your personal auto insurance policy is dangerous, but when you transport passengers—in this case, other peoples’ children—such limits could prove catastrophic. An accident caused by your negligent driving that injures a child in your car could cost thousands of dollars. Should the child’s injury prove serious, the cost will likely be much higher and could also include costs for pain, suffering and inconvenience experienced by the child’s family.

Safe driving is essential to protecting those in your car, and high limits of liability are essential to protecting your family’s financial security should an accident occur.
