Batteries seem to be in everything today, from our smartphones and laptops, fitness trackers, medical equipment to thermostats. In 1972, the average home had two battery-operated devices. Today, the average home has at least 30.
Many of these battery-operated devices use lithium ion batteries which when not properly managed, can explode.
Some basic laws of batteries:
Lithium batteries must be used within their operating limits. That means over-charging them and extreme temperatures can lead to problems.
The more energy in the battery, the bigger the possible explosion.
To safely use batteries in your home make sure you are using and charging them as directed, do not leave batteries perpetually plugged in or stored around items that could accidentally connect the reactive points and cause a reaction.
