Ice Damming Prevention & Preparation Tips

Ice Damming Prevention & Preparation Tips

Get Ready For Winter With This Ice Dam Preparation Guide

As we say goodbye to summer, it is time to start thinking about what lies ahead. In light of the terrible winter we had last year and the high number of claims that came in, we want to help you better prepare for the upcoming snowy season. Use these tips for preventing ice dams.

  • Insulate Your Home: The more insulation your home has, the more heat will stay where you want it instead of in the attic where it can contribute to an ice dam. Plus, the better insulation will help you keep your heating costs low.
  • Cover Your Attic Hatch: Leaving your attic hatch unsealed allows heat to escape to your roof. Cap it with foil-faced foam board insulation sealed with aluminum tape.
  • Put In Ridge and Soffit Vents: With these vents in place, cold air will circulate under your roof, keeping it all a consistent temperature and making it impossible for ice dams to form.

Of course, even with all of your best efforts we can never predict what Mother Nature will bring our way this winter. To ensure you have the homeowners insurance your Westchester County home needs to weather the coming season, contact Allan Block Insurance Agency in Tarrytown, New York.
