Unsafe Parent Driving Practices

While most safe driving campaigns are targeted toward teen drivers, they are not the only ones that need safe driving tips. Many adults are also practicing unsafe driving behaviors, such as talking or texting, or even driving while under the influence.

In a study done by Liberty Mutual Holding Co., 42 percent of teens have asked their parents to stop texting and driving, and 18 percent of the teen surveyed had tried to stop their parents from driving while they were high from marijuana use. Out of the parents who were asked to stop risky behavior while behind the wheel, 40 percent ignored the requests or came up with justifications for their actions.

Not only do these dangerous driving habits endanger the driver and passengers in the vehicle, they also pose a threat to others on the road. It also reinforces a teen’s belief that these are acceptable driving habits, which create unsafe drivers.
