Pool Safety: Pool Drownings Can Happen in an Instant

sunglasses-original

Spending time in the pool is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and beat the summer heat but every year more than 3,000 people drown in the US, and many others suffer from serious injuries in near drowning incidents. To keep you and your family members safe it is important to review some pool safety.

Supervise In and Around Water – Have a responsible adult watch young children while they are playing in and around the water. The responsible adult should not be involved in anything distracting (such as reading, playing cards, talking on the phone ect)

Learn Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) – In the time that it takes for paramedics to arrive, your CPR skills could save someone’s life.

Air-Filled or Foam Toys are Not Safety Devices – Don’t use air-filled or foam toys such as “water wings””noodles” or inner-tubes instead of life jackets. These toys are not life jackets are not designed to keep swimmers safe.

Don’t Leave Toys In the Pool Area – Remove floats, balls and other toys from the pool area when you are finished so children are not tempted to enter the pool area unsupervised.
